I Love to Teach, I Love to Inspire – When this Young Mom Opened Her Mouth and Earned

How’s everyone?

I hope you are doing great. If not, then just pray and be patient. Everything will eventually turn out fine. That’s just the way the world goes. 🙂

So what’s cooking?

Well, I just want to share with you my experience as a Resource Speaker.

You got that right. This young mom was invited to become a Resource Speaker. *giggles*

QUICK BACKROUND

I want to teach.

I want to inspire.

There’s something about talking in front of a huge crowd that fuels me. It’s something that I have always wanted to do. It’s not because I wanted to become a star or the center of attention. But because it was the easiest way to touch hearts – in just few blows.

Often times I think, what’s my purpose in life?

I know that being a mother has a full load of purpose, but someone who’s ambitious like me would love to hit it the extra mile. So yes, that’s probably one of the reasons why I want to be under the spotlight. To share what I know – and if God permits, inspire more people.

AN UNEXPECTED MESSAGE

It was a sunny afternoon when I received a message from a former classmate, TinMae, asking if I can be a resource speaker for the company she was working for.  The training was about Negotiation and Assertiveness.

Of course I wanted to. It was a new path for me and I always see myself teaching.  But you know what closed the deal?

It was the professional fee.

I’m not going to be a hypocrite. I needed the cash. And at first I thought it was only thing that I would get from this ‘raket’.

FLIPPING OLD COLLEGE TEXTBOOKS

It was a short notice but I was fortunate enough to have finished the course outline and presentation on time. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be.  I had to revive my Communication and Psychology textbooks. On the side, I had to blow the dust off my Sales Techniques books.  On top of that, it was imperative that my topics are cohesive with one another.

I want the training to be flawless, seamless. I want it to be perfect.

Goodness! It was fun flipping the pages of my books. In fact, I sometimes over- read because every time I flip, I would remember good memories. The mere smell of the pages was nostalgic.

When I received the email that my proposal has been approved, I did not become complacent. There was no room for me to rest. Hence, I read books, watched videos – basically to prepare for that big day.

Side note: I’d like to thank TinMae for this opportunity, and of course for all the assistance prior training.

TRAINING DAY

I woke up early – which I’m not used to- and just ate hotdog sandwich on the road.

Truth be told, I was pretty confident with my module. After all, I tried to look for the best ‘technical’ but easy to understand topics to discuss. But what scared the hell out of me was the fact that I need to talk for HOURS! I thought ‘I better bring sensible fillers and stories. Otherwise, I’m doomed’. Good thing I’m in sales for more than 5 years. My experience should be able to back me up.

Luckily, most of my trainees are young. More or less, we were on the same page when it comes to seeing life as it is. At least when I threw jokes most of them laughed. 🙂 After all, it would be very awkward if I see ‘poker faces’ from them.

It was my first time to be surrounded by people who work in banks. Of course I took the chance to learn few ‘jargons’ from them. At the same time, I tried to embrace how they do sales in a banking industry. It was a bit different from what I practice, but without a doubt, can be integrated to my tactics. (Maybe I’d make another post about making sales – I’m just baking it.)True enough, I learned from them. In fact, I think it was 50 – 50. They learned from me, I gained from them.

The trainees. Oh gosh, they are awesome!
Can you see me? 🙂

LAST WORDS

I was dead tired after the seminar. I was even driving with my head afloat to Heaven- Knows – Where.  But one thing is for sure, it wasn’t just the money that I earned. It was a bag full of new knowledge and a pumped up self – worth.   Oh, and few friends too. 🙂

  1. Congratulations! Nice naman that you can actually make a career out of speaking and inspiring others. I have stage fright, so this sort of work isn’t for me. But I totally admire people who are able to speak and share effectively with of others.

  2. Oh oh I’m so jelly! I’m not much of a speaker (I prefer writing) but I do love sharing and telling stories (to a willing crowd haha). I’m sure the cash payment didn’t hurt either!

    • I’m sure you can nail it too. I guess I’m more of a speaker. 🙂 Either way, it’s really our objective to share our knowledge that counts, right? And yes – the cash payment was the deal sealer. 😀 haha
